The English version of this acclaimed video anthology was produced in
collaboration with a Smithsonian/ Folkways Recordings editorial board of scholars.
Thirty videotapes in VHS format are accompanied by nine books which describe in detail each
of the sequences in the videos. They contain full glossaries and individual essays on the social,
cultural, and historical background of the music, dance, musical instruments, costumes and
rituals. Also included are maps, a complete crossreferenced index and charts and photos. 1200
pages total. Over 500 performances from 100 countries. Tapes vary from 40 to 60 minutes.
